The Drawing Bazaar. Graphic and coded communication has been the research focus of both authors, María Fullaondo and Ciro Márquez, for many years now: Drawing as an instrumental and, most importantly, autonomous activity critical for architects in order to communicate their ideas effectively and persuasively. The result of these years of continuous research, exploration and collaboration with prestigious academics is this new academic book that presents a systemisation of a diverse range of linguistic-graphic strategies applicable to all design related disciplines including, of course, Architecture.

MANIFEST RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR THE INTERNATIONAL DRAWING ANNUAL 8

July 1, 2015

Mariasun Salgado's artpiece "Interstices II" was published on INDA 8. The Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) ceremony was held recently in New York City. Manifest’s 8th International Drawing Annual, a 184 page book (‘exhibit in print’) representing 104 works of drawing by 80 artists from 24 states and 9 countries including Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Qatar, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States, was selected from among over 5000 total submissions for a third place Bronze Medal Award in the Fine Art category.

This second IPPY award for drawing (and third overall) further punctuates ten years of work on the INDA series, which has grown in reputation and participation over time. The award is tangible proof that Manifest is fulfilling its mission to reach out to a global audience from our small headquarters in East Walnut Hills in Cincinnati, Ohio, to stand for something that artists appreciate and the public respects, and to honor the creative work of so many separate people all connected by their participation in our projects.

This award and this project would not be possible without the support of Manifest’s generous donors, supporting members, ArtsWave, and The Ohio Arts Council.

For this exhibit 394 artists from 44 states, 20 countries, and Washington D.C. submitted 1188 works for consideration. Thirty-six works by the following 27 artists from 13 states, England, Japan, and Spain were selected for presentation in the gallery and Manifest Exhibition Annual publication.

An award-winning architect with a passion for graphic arts and design, Mariasun is a multi-faceted talent. We caught up with her to learn more about her life and art.

Boasting a very distinctive style, Mariasun’s art communicates through “a hybrid graphical language and escapes both realism and abstraction” and a similarly complex approach shows through her winning artwork, “New Materiality”.

A Moleskine sketchbook is the canvas upon which her creations come to life.

Collective Exhibition: Affective Architectures

ALUNA ART FOUNDATION PRESENTS “AFFECTIVE ARCHITECTURES” COLLABORATION WITH THE MEXICAN CULTURAL INSTITUTE IN MIAMI

Amidst the flood of banal images, what artworks created through an inter-subjective dialogue with the architecture or the spaces inhabited by artists, have the power to move us and remain in our memory? This question was the point of departure in Affective Architectures, an exhibition curated by Aluna Curatorial Collective (Adriana Herrera and Willy Castellanos), and presented with the collaboration of the Instituto Cultural de México in Miami. The opening will be on December 6 at the headquarters of Aluna Art Foundation and the show will run until March 28, 2015.

Twenty three artists from Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin America, and Spain display specular visions of the architectures that are, or were, mirrors of the failed dreams of modernism in the continent, but they also reveal the potential reserves of creativeness that often manifest themselves in the midst of chaos or necessity.

Mariasun Salgado Solo Exhibition

Opening : Thursday May 16 2013Exhibition periods: May 16 – June 9, 2013Organizer : Fundación Adolfo Dominguez

Exhibition Location: Exit Art Gallery. C/ Serrano 5, Madrid
